Yes, we can. Yes, we will.

I just finished watching the inauguration of Barack Obama.  I am once again proud to be an American.  Once again I have hope for the future of this country and the world.

All in a day?

It's interesting how quickly life can change, you know?  Today, no this afternoon, I found out I no longer have job.   I'm not sure how I feel about it.   I'm kind of okay and a little bit panicked.  Good thing I have a van I guess, right?

Life is about to get very very interesting.

Once I read pinkphoenix's instructions and learn how to do a cut, I'll move this, but in the meantime - from the next president of the United States of America, President Barack Obama:

"And I would not be standing here tonight without the unyielding support of my best friend for the last 16 years ... the rock of our family, the love of my life, the nation's next first lady ... Michelle Obama.
...
I was never the likeliest candidate for this office. We didn't start with much money or many endorsements. Our campaign was not hatched in the halls of Washington. It began in the backyards of Des Moines and the living rooms of Concord and the front porches of Charleston. It was built by working men and women who dug into what little savings they had to give $5 and $10 and $20 to the cause.
...
And, above all, I will ask you to join in the work of remaking this nation, the only way it's been done in America for 221 years -- block by block, brick by brick, calloused hand by calloused hand.

What began 21 months ago in the depths of winter cannot end on this autumn night.

This victory alone is not the change we seek. It is only the chance for us to make that change. And that cannot happen if we go back to the way things were."

Last night I was pretty disappointed about the passing of California's Prop 8.  Today, well I'm still disappointed but I also see the opportunity.  Now we have a chance - another chance - to bring this to the attention of everyone.  It will be the subject of debates and challenges and lawsuits.  We have the opportunity to defeat this.  We have the opportunity to prove it can - and should - be defeated.  Once California over turns this - and I have no doubt they will - a precedent will be set and other states can follow.

America elected a black President today - for the first time ever.  On the other hand, one of this country's most liberal states passed a ban on gay marriage.   I just can't understand bigotry.

One step forward and two steps back.

Finally! Today is the day.

So I guess I'm supposed to post something more often than once a month...  My life just is not that intersting...

Saturday was the memorial service and it went really well.  There was enough food but not too much.  The service was hard.  Several people got up and said how sad they were & how much they would miss Bonnie.  Everyone was crying.  So her granddaughter & I got up (separately) and told funny stories.  She even swore. In church.  That was the best part for me.  I wish it would have ended there.

Today is the day.  Finally we elect a new president.  Americans, please vote.  Please.

ETA:  I'm usually not into cute kid vids, but I liked this one.  Especially when he says the Pledge and then again at the very end...   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svhq4C9HhUg

Why is it that some perfectly appropriate words sometimes seem totally inappropriate?  "Friend" is the correct descriptor for our relationship, but Bonnie was so very much more to me than that word conveys.  Bonnie was - a very dear friend, a surrogate mother, role model, mentor, hero - and  she died last week.

Anyway... Her family has foolishly asked me to arrange the local memorial service.  Seriously, me?   I am so not good at this kind of thing.

I don't what kind of food to have or what's appropriate (I seem to be using that word a lot today...) to have for plates and such.  Okay, I do know that anything with a Halloween theme is probably in bad taste.  But what else?  Jeez. I hate this.  I want it to be perfect for Bonnie and I don't know how.

If you're reading this then you're reading my first ever LJ entry.  Yay for me!

Be patient friends, I'm new at this and not very savvy.

The reason behind me finally screwing up my courage to post?  To thank jangljewles for sharing her artwork with the SN community.  And also to thank her for the work she did on the gift to JP.  I know something happened with that - I don't know what and I don't want to know - but I'm sad that it happened.

We all need to learn to be kinder to each other.
